Rosatom’s extensive program in Rooppur NPP region to observe World Environment Day
In celebration of the World Environment Day, Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM in association with Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) undertook extensive mass awareness campaign through community engagement, at Ishwardi and Pabna. Conscious consumption, sustainable environment, and carbon free energy were the highlights of the campaign. During 4-day program a series of events was organized at Ishwardi and Pabna.
The events provided a unique opportunity for the local community to come together, learn, and actively participate in promoting a sustainable future. A total of over 1,500 people actively participated in the events.
Nina Dementsova, head of the Communications Department of ASE, noted, “carrying out such events is an important and necessary matter. The environmental theme is og great importance, and we, as the general contractor for the construction of the Rooppur NPP, take a responsible approach to environmental issues in this region. For the third year in a row, our events are attended by a huge number of participants, and this once again confirms that we are doing everything right.”
As part of the program a seminar on conscious consumption and the ecological features related to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant was organized in association with Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST).
Event at Public Information Center on Nuclear
Dr. Md Rahedul Islam, Chairman, Department of Geography and Environment said, “Joint seminar with Rosatom, dedicated to World Environment Day, was a great opportunity for our students to dispel many misunderstandings about environment and nuclear energy. They were able to learn about ways we can change our ecological situation and how can we protect our environment.”
Later, on the same at an event organized at Public Information Center on Nuclear, Ishwardi. School children were taught how to craft useful and beautiful items from waste materials like plastic bottles and newspapers in the
On the next day “Trash to Treasure Challenge” scavenger hunt game was organized at Ishwardi Govt. College. This was a team game where participants had to find creative ways to repurpose a bag of miscellaneous waste items, for further use.
On the same day an educational cartoon titled ‘Tomorrow’ was demonstrated for the Iswardi local school students. They learned about conscious consumption.
The main attraction of the campaign was staging of a drama on ecology for the public at Ishwardi. The purpose was to creating awareness about protecting the environment, and highlighting nuclear technology as a clean source of energy.
Besides, an exhibition of eco-friendly items for general public was organized at the premises of Ishwardi Municipality.
Additionally, teachers from 15 schools were sent methodological manual in advance for conducting interactive classes to develop students' understanding of the "Carbon free future" concept.
The program ended with a visit to Vintage Denim in Pabna, by the local students. The facility is known as an eco-friendly green factory.
