Marriott announces plans for first Africa safari lodge

Marriott International, which manages leading hotel brands including the Ritz-Carlton, has announced it will be entering the safari segment in Africa.
In the renowned wildlife destination of Mara National Reserve in southwest Kenya, the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge will be offering an African safari experience defined by luxury.
Scheduled to open in 2023, the luxury safari lodge will overlook the River Talek on the edge of the reserve.
The plans for Marriott’s new lodge will include 20 private tents including “one presidential canvas-topped pavilion and two interconnecting canopied suites.”
The lodge will also feature a restaurant, lounge bar, spa and an outdoor terrace where traditional Masai dance performances will be held in the evening. Against the backdrop of the national reserve, guests will be able to observe lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinoceros and elephants.
Chief Development Officer for Marriott International Europe, Middle East and Africa, Jerome Briet said the lodge was a landmark project brought about by travellers’ growing desire for experiential offerings.
The project will aim to employ up to 50 locals from the Masai community and offer robust learning opportunities for guests.
