New local social media apps ‘Jogajog’ and ‘Alapon’ will come as alternatives to Facebook and WhatsApp
Bangladesh to develop own social media platforms

Dhaka: Bangladesh will be developing two new social media platforms of their own, announced the country’s ICT State Minister on July 24. They will be coming up with two apps ‘Jogajog’ and ‘Alapon’ as alternatives to social media sites Facebook and WhatsApp respectively.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Entrepreneurship Masterclass Series 2 held by Women e-Commerce.
The state minister said, “Through the Jogajog app, the entrepreneurs of the country will be able to create their own online marketplace and group for information, data, and communication.”
He further mentioned how the ICT ministry successfully developed the ‘Boithok’ app as an alternative to Zoom and ‘Surokkha’ for Covid-19 vaccine registration.
Palak also expressed his hope that the e-commerce, hardware, software, and BPO sectors would create over 2 million jobs by 2021, citing the digital e-commerce policy of 2018.
Not only that, the State Minister eyes a possibility to earn USD 5 billion in exports from ICT by 2025.
